Termites that’s all we need

Every home owner fears termites and their devastation. The first sign of termites and instantly everyone begins to wonder how to solve the problem. The first step to solving a termite problem is determining whether or not you have termites.

Determining If You Have an Infestation:

Shed Wings. Reproductive termites gather in groups called swarmers. You will see them where there is presence of light. While these termites are swarming they shed their wings which will pile up and look like a pile of fish scales. This signals that you do in fact have a termite infestation.
Frass. Frass is where termites leave piles of droppings that are wood colored. Normally these droppings will be near where they nest.
Pocked Wood. If any of the wood in your home has been hollowed out you have an infestation. If you knock on the wood you will hear a hollowed sound that will tell you how hollow the wood is.
Sunk in areas on walls. If you have areas on your walls that are sunken in that will definitely give evidence of an infestation. As the termites eat away at your wood it will leave sunken areas on your walls and can even cause the pain to bubble.

If you find that you do in fact have a termite infestation then it is time to take action. There are many ways to rid yourself of termites and it is best to act fast because termites can quickly cause thousands of dollars in damage to your home. The first step you must take is determining what type of termite is infesting your home.

Different Species of Termites:

Dampwood Termite

These termites are normally found along the Pacific Coast and in Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Florida, and Hawaii. Dampwood termites are the biggest of all the termite species. To survive dampwood termites must live in moist areas. If the wood is not moist enough the dampwood termite will not survive. While the Florida Dampwood termite does minimal amount of infestation and rarely infest homes, the Dampwood termites of Nevada and the Pacific coast do massive damage to homes.

Treatment Options for Dampwood termites. The best way to rid yourself of dampwood termites is to reduce the moisture in infested areas. Ensure you repair any plumbing leaks, increase ventilation, and make adjustments to ensure minimal contact with wood and soil. There are also products that are highly recommended that you should invest in.
Bora-Care. This product provides prevention and enables you to control termites. It is applied directly to wood.
Premise 2- This product is used mainly in subterranean infestations, however, it has been effective in the treatment of Dampwood Termites as well.
Premise Granules- Granulated formula that is highly effective in killing wood pests, including termites
Timbor- This product protect wood against fungal decay and termites. Highly recommended.

Drywood Termites

These termites are very unique because they do not need moisture or water. These termites are mainly found in regions that do not have freezing temperatures. While drywood termites damage to property happens slowly than other species of termites there is a huge possibility of having larger areas of damage because of how hard drywood termites are to detect. Professionals do not suggest trying to rid your home of drywood termites without professional assistant because drywood termites do not leave their galleries. The normal baiting and sprays do not work in these instances.

Many professionals suggest the best treatment option to kill drywood termites is fumigation if there is a large infestation. During the fumigation process the structure will be wrapped in tight tarps that will not release the gas. A fumigant will be released within this wrap replacing the oxygen with a deadly gas. Normally this process is 100% effective because only the adults need to be killed as the immature will not survive without the adult care. This process may only be performed by a licensed fumigator.

If the infestation is only in a small localized area there are treatment options such as liquid, foam, and dusts. To use this method effectively a hole must be drilled in the infested area and then have the insecticide placed inside that hole. After the insecticide has been placed inside the hole it must be plugged up for the maximum efficiency. The most highly recommended treatment options for small infestations are:

      Termidor Foam – Aerosol

Termidor Dry – Aerosol

Premise Foam – Aerosol

Alpine Foam – Aerosol

Timber – Dust Formula

TriDie – Dust Formula

Invader – Foam

D-Foam – Foam

TriDie – Silica Gel

Formosan Termite

These termites are a species of the subterranean termites. However, they are more aggressive and cause more destruction. These termites are found in the southern states such as Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, and South Carolina. The species originated in Taiwan and China however. Formosan swarms are the worst at night during the spring and summer. If the colony of the Formosan termites is mature they can go through 13 ounces of wood a day, completely destroying a wooden structure in three months.

Formosan termite infestations can be treated in multiple ways. Any parts of the structure that is gathering moisture needs to be modified to reduce the moisture.

There are also termiticides and baits:
Hex Pro Termite Baiting System
Bora Care

Fumigation is also an option for treating Formosan termites. However, if the soil has not been treated then fumigating will not work. Baiting is also an option for complete removal of nests. The recommended baiting treatment is Hex Pro Termite Baiting System.

Subterranean Termite

These termites can be found in every state except Alaska. Subterranean termites must have moisture to survive. Normally these termites live underground, but if they find somewhere with moisture they will swarm there.
Professionals find that using liquid repellants is effective in treating subterranean infestations.

Recommended brands are Prelude and Talstar. Repellants are effective as they discourage termites from swarming to the structure. Another method highly boasted at killing subterranean termites is using liquid non-repellant termicide treatments. These treatments will allow the termites to survive up to 90 days, however, the termites share the poison to others and this effectively kills the entire colony over time. The recommended non-repellant termiticide treatments are Phantom, Premise, or Termidor. Bait systems are also recommended and have been said to be the easiest termicide to use. Recommended baiting systems are Advance and Hex Pro.

Having a termite infestation is very scary, however, there are many options available. The best way to handle a termite infestation is to stay calm, identify, and treat. Ensure that you take every precaution to protect your home. If it feels way to overwhelming then definitely turn to a professional. Think about investing in termite repellants to dissuade termites from ever attacking your home. In the end, termite infestations is a scary thought, but it can be treated effectively, and being knowledgeable about those treatments is the first step in protection and defense.

Fidel Castro facts

fidel castroYour life is not complete without knowing more about Fidel Castro, it just isn’t, so here goes, get ready to learn about the man who upset the USA for a while. He looks quite pleased for himself in the picture above doesn’t he?

He was born in 1926 on 13th August in Cuba near a place called  Birán. He used guerrilla warfare tactics in 1959 to take Cuba away from the then leader Batista and basically swore himself into power and stayed for a long time, he became prime minister initially.

While he was leader he connected with the Soviet Union and set up economic and military relations with them, which didn’t do much for USA’s feelings towards Cuba. This friendship with the Soviet Union came to a small head with the Cuban Missile Crisis.

In 1976 he became president of Cuba and moved on from his prime minister role, which he walked into. He led his country for 49 years and in the US there were 10 presidents.

Here are 10 things you may or may not have known about Fidel Castro

  1. His father was from Spain, the Galician region and became a wealthy landowner, he did extremely well as he began as an immigrant labourer. Fidel himself was born in Cuba near  Birán as you know, if you read the beginning of this post. Castro once said that it wasn’t good to say I was the son of a wealthy landowner, so let us all know that I was the grandson of peasants from the Galician region who were exploited. He said this in 992 in an interview.
  2. While at law school he started becoming active in the political scene, while at Havana’s University.
  3. Castro’s limousines  are now taxi’s in Cuba, how cool is that and ironic. (side note: my favourite limo company in England is wigan limo)
  4. Although a man of the people he married a wealthy daughter who were linked to the Batista regime, her name was Mirta Diaz Balart. Fidelito their son was born in 1949, his name means little Fidel.. While in prison, Mirta applied for divorce after receiving love letters intended for another woman; Natalia Revuelta a Cuban socialite. The letters to his wife and Natalia Revuelta were changed over and it is rumoured to have been the handiwork of the prison director.
  5. In 1985 he stopped smoking for his health, but was famously known for puffing on a big Havana.
  6. While in the mountains as a young man he grew his famous beard, this was while being a young revolutionary. The beard was a very well calculated facial expression, not just a symbolic gesture of a tough guerrilla fighter but he said it takes 5,000 minutes a year to shave (15 minutes a day) and he had much more important things to do with his time than shave. Personally I think if it didn’t make him look cool he would not have done that. Just saying…
  7. The book “For Whom The Bell Tolls” by Ernest Hemmingway that was set in the 1930’s during the civil war in Spain was one of his favourite reads.
  8. Famous for his very very long speeches, some taking (yawn) 7 hours, he was not a prolific writer, he has not published much at all, I guess he was better at speaking…
  9. He loved reading, cooking and spearfishing when he was younger.
  10. His view expressed in 1994 was that Cuba can only be ruled by the revolution, when asked about political liberalization in an interview with  a USA news crew.

What was your most interesting fact?

I have to love the 5,000 minute calculation to save time by not shaving. And his limos are being driven around as taxi’s now.

Removal of clutter (we hope)

Stone Age Man Junk.

Disorder is a characteristic unavoidable truth and the issue began with our Cave dweller predecessors. Route back in those Hole Days you expected to amass as much sustenance and supplies as you could keep in mind the end goal to guarantee you’re survival. Life was straightforward. You dragged it all into your hollow. This was savvy and imperative to do. Else you may give up. Be that as it may, the world we live in is different now from that point forward.

We’ve advanced an awesome arrangement since those early days, and nourishment and materials for survival are much less demanding to obtain. However, we all still enclose a little voice in our heads that needs us to clutch stuff “in light of the fact that we may require it.”

Try not to trust it. It’s that old cave dweller survival voice, and it’s not going to help you now.

Presently, we run the more serious danger of choking out our life under an aggregation of little and substantial belonging (and their orderly upkeep) that no more serve us in our day by day lives.

(Note: Our stuff has changed an awesome arrangement since those early days also. In those days, everything was bio-degradable and vanished rather rapidly so that jumble development was less of an issue. Quite a bit of our stuff now will last longer than us.)

Also, we now live in a world that is in light of consumerism. So there’s a decent arrangement of publicizing that still needs us to stock up and purchase new stuff. It’s truly hard not to wind up stalled by a certain measure of disorder.

We’re all vastly improved at shopping than un-shopping.

Making Space For Novelty

The key to managing mess and changing your life is to understand that:

  1. you don’t require as much stuff (you are no more a Cave dweller, all things considered).
  2. by having less you are opening your life up, helping it and making a situation that will permit you to prosper and achieve your most noteworthy potential. It’s not just about giving up; it’s about acknowledging what amount of more life you can have.

While books are incredible assets and markers of experience, we each of the have a tendency to clutch more than we really utilize. Furthermore, a large portion of us hang on firmly! Keeping in mind the end goal to clean them up. We have to understand that books are accumulations of recollections and OLD CONTEMPLATIONS, not new ones.

I would even take this further. Clutching ANYTHING that doesn’t have a working part in your home won’t permit you to make new space for ANYTHING new to come into your life — things, occupations, individuals, opportunities, and so on. Indeed, even as we get new things, we have to bring old things out. Along these lines, we guarantee a fundamental life stream in our lives.

 THE Brilliant 10%

Along these lines, the key to cleaning up is to make a satisfying and effective sorting out framework for each of your regions (garments, shoes, books, cookware, and so forth) and after that never permitting them to top off. You generally need to leave no less than 10% void space. That is your space for freshness to come into your life.

Which implies that relying upon how huge a collector you are, you’ll have to clean up pretty much regularly. To help you in this, I generously prescribe setting up an outbox; which you use to give a shelter to those things you are considering relinquishing.

Second-Era Mess Clearing

The outbox is your partner as you clean up. It meets expectations in light of the fact that it utilizes a two-stage transform that permits you to reason if you need something without needing to choose what to do with it quickly.

Most disarray clearers will instruct you to deal with your things and move certain add up to the trash, to reusing, or to the giveaway heap. This is an original disarray clearing methodology. It concentrates chiefly on distinguishing disorder that will promptly be taken away. The issue with original intuition is that it doesn’t consider that there are truly TWO issues: how to deal with the mess and how to segregate from it. I’ve found that partition tension is by a wide margin the most concerning issue.

At the point when confronted with the two tensions inciting choices — where something ought to go (its quality to the world) and whether one can isolate from it (its worth to me) —many people get stuck and basically clutch things as a default. Second-era mess administration unfastens these two choices. It manages partition first and chooses how and where to get junks out of your home later.

The Outbox

Pick a space that is plainly characterized. This region ought to be off the beaten path of every day exercises and be a spot you can serenely permit to get muddled and turbulent for a brief while. A storage room or visitor room is ideal for this, yet any little territory or corner close to your front entryway will do. Assign this your outbox. The outbox is not refuse, nor does it need to be a real box; it is an asylum where things sit while their destiny is being decided. You ought to never be reluctant to place something in the outbox.

Once a thing has sat in the outbox for quite a while, it discharges its hold over the proprietor and turns out to be just and common protest that one can without much stress choose what to do with. One customer contrasted it with the wonder youngsters experience when they begin to look all sparkly at a stone that is wet or submerged. Later, when the stone has gotten dry and is no more glossy, it turns out to be only a plain old rock again and the kid’s fascination to it decreases all of a sudden.

As straightforward as it seems to be, the outbox has turned out to be a great degree fruitful in permitting individuals to get out and mend their homes productively all the time.

Outbox Rules

  1. Anything can go into the outbox
  2. The outbox is permitted to get chaotic
  3. Everything must stay in the outbox for no less than one week
  4. After that time you have a few decisions
  5. Take anything pull out
  6. Leave anything you are undecided about for one more week
  7. Discard the rest by moving to the refuse, reusing canister, or giveaway heap

When you get used to isolating first and discarding later, you’ll see that clearing jumble gets simpler and less demanding.

Put all these into action.
